Guinea pigs (also known as cavies) are in many ways similar to rabbits. At least when it comes to caring for them. A guinea pig will be happy in a cage similar to a rabbit's.

Even though a guinea pig might look like an ideal pet for a small child, I really think the child needs to be a little older. Just because guinea pigs aren't strong enough to cause much harm, they deserve to be treated gently, just like any other pet.

If you think you want a guinea pig, read some of the books available. Learn all you can about its care. The more you know, the more fun you'll have with your pet.

They are plenty of guinea pig breeds. All of them make good pets.

Guinea pigs come from South America. In Peru, people still eat them. It's their business, but I do hope tourists won't try that particular dish. Anyway, I've heard that it tastes horrible.

Most pet animals have tails, but guinea pigs don't. They have the cutest little tailless butts. They also have really cute little lower lips.

If they think you might have some tasty snack for them, they make a funny whistling sound. It means: give me something! Or something like that.
